Default Forward conversion - crash bar

I want to convert my FXD over to forward controls, but dont they mount in the same holes on the frame where my crash bar mounts?

Is there a crash bar on the market that mounts elsewhere?

All the fwd controls that I have looked at for my fxdl state that they can not be installed with crash bars. I have checked with about 5 different manufacturers. I guess its one or the other. I'm going with the fwd controls.

Blue - how tall are your apes? Those are looking better and better to me.

I have already decided to go with the forward controls. I sat on a buddy's wide glide and made up my mind.

I'm 6'1" and the extra room shifting will be a help.

Are your apes taller than the wide glide apes?

Hey no1likhim, there is a crash bar that can mount on a FXD after forward controls are installed, check out the photos of my FXD at the link below. Not sure of the part number but there is a Harley crash bar(engine guard) that will mount. My FXD is a 2003 with wide glide forward controls.

I really like the looks of your bike. Don't know what all the changes they made in '04 were, but I've also been told that it's not workable with my '05. Thanks for the input though. I'll check it out again. Art

The Engine Guard Harley part number you need is 49010-93. It is on page 163 of the 2004 parts book. Made for all FXD's with forward controls except FXDWD. Check it out! I have this guard monted on my 03 FXD and have a friend with same guard on his 05 FXD.

Hey Art, no problem friend, we all learn something new every day! Get that bar mounted with some highway pegs, lean back and enjoy the ride!
