All the fwd controls that I have looked at for my fxdl state that they can not be installed with crash bars. I have checked with about 5 different manufacturers. I guess its one or the other. I'm going with the fwd controls.
to find my comfort zone, my 05 lowrider has forward controls, badlander seat, and apes. parked my *** on stock new one in the dealer this weekend and couldn't beleive the difference. skip the crash bars...you will so love those forward controls.
Hey no1likhim, there is a crash bar that can mount on a FXD after forward controls are installed, check out the photos of my FXD at the link below. Not sure of the part number but there is a Harley crash bar(engine guard) that will mount. My FXD is a 2003 with wide glide forward controls. http://www.opaloasis.com/Harley.html
I really like the looks of your bike. Don't know what all the changes they made in '04 were, but I've also been told that it's not workable with my '05. Thanks for the input though. I'll check it out again. Art
The Engine Guard Harley part number you need is 49010-93. It is on page 163 of the 2004 parts book. Made for all FXD's with forward controls except FXDWD. Check it out! I have this guard monted on my 03 FXD and have a friend with same guard on his 05 FXD.
