I'm sure there are enough post out there for the question I'm about to ask. But honestly, the more I read the more confused I get. I can't figure out the right combination of detachable parts for what I am trying to do. So here it is:
1) I ordered a pair of Viking Saddle Bags (CHAR-051-PL). They are throw overs but can be mounted. I want detachable mounts.
2) I want a detachable sissy bar\backrest
3) Sport rack is not a must have
I have a 2009 Fat Bob. Can someone please enlighten me on the right combination's of mounts, side plates, etc.
Also, will I be able to ride with the bags but not the sissy bar? Not like I have to, just checking.
I've got the HD detachable sissybar/backrest/luggage rack. I've also got the hard points for the "Easy Brackets". They mount right on the same bolts that hold the HD detachable hardware on.
I'm looking for the exact same thing. The more i search places like Denniskirk.com and here - the more confused I get. I have an '03 FXDL, and I have the stock bar-hopper seat on it.
I thought, boy - wouldn't it be awesome for my wife to have something back there behind her. At minimal I figured it would at least give me some peace of mind. The search for something to solve this problem has sure proven to be a pain!
Anybody have any ideas? Do they really sell the bar, the bracket, the mounting hardware AND a pad completely separate?

Yes you can buy all that separate... but why? Just get the detachable backrest setup. Unless you have a 2up seat that you can switch out with, you'll need a passenger pillion.
Here is my detachable on the bike right after I bought it.
I used Ghost brackets. Looks just like the pictrues that Archer posted. Works good. Bought some after market bags pretty cheap. Put the detach bag kit on and mounted the brakets to the bags, took me about 30 minutes. Nice to have detachable bags. Really nice. Had one issue with the ghost braket though. Barrel lock came out on a ride. Called them and the shipped two new ones to me in a hurry. Changed the locks and no problems since. Good investment.
