Has anyone blacked out a grey engine? Or, painted a grey engine. Never really liked the grey engines, but I can get a pretty good deal on a '09 Street Bob....but I just can't get over the grey engine.
Thanks
Yeah, it's possible alright. I'm in the middle of doing it to my 09 SB right now. I've bee picking up extra parts on ebay, and having them powdercoated, and then just quickly swapping them out. You can then sell your swapped out parts on Ebay yourself. It keeps your bikes down town time to a bare minimum. At least it's been working perfectly for me.
Everything you need to know about it is right here on the following links. Naz Man of the fourms just completed painting his engine and did an outstanding write up with pictures included:

Thanks everyone for your responses. This is exactly what I was looking for.....I really need to weigh if I should get the lowrider with the black engine(cases and tranny) or if I should save some $ and buy the Street Bob and paint the engine myself.
If both bikes handle the same (other than bars, seat, etc), I would hate to buy the lowrider and pay extra for the chrome - I will end up swapping the chrome for wrinkle black anyway.....BUT, if I get the Street Bob and do not paint the engine - it will bother me to no end.
Does the MoCo use paint or powder coat on their engines(cases and tranny)?
Thanks again.
I know powder coat is preferred but does anyone have any idea how the paint will hold up? Obviously it is in an area which will come in contact with alot of debris (rocks, salt- during the winter months).
Ive seen 2 in person that were painted and they both looked terrible. While I think its possible to do it and get a good turn out I think most of the time it will look like you painted it and wont hold up.
Naz Man's looks like his turned out real good but dont think most will get the same results.
IMO if you cant get over the grey engine I would look at other bikes.

Post some pics of your progress if you can. I like the engine color on my 09 Bob but I'm curious as to what parts you powdered and installed.
Thanks
