Is it possible to piece together a set of forward controls? ( as in buy all the parts seperate) Looking to save some $$$$. I have a 09 Street bob and what can i say im a cheap A$$. Just wondering.
From what I see by watching ebay forward controls are a fast seller and the prices are almost what new sells for.
There are plenty of aftermarket sets to choose from, do your homework to make sure you get everything you need in the kit.
If your long legged like I am a couple inch extension would be something to consider as well.
I would think a kit is the best way to go to not end up with a pile of mismatched pieces.
I just talked with the hd dealer and they told me its going to cost $750 to install. They said it has to have the primary removed for installation.
And most of that is labor. You can buy the Kury forward kit brand new for about $300 shipped to your door and install it yourself in less than 2 hours using simple tools and without taking the primary apart. You can install the HD kit the same way if you find a cover for the shaft spline like the 1 kury provides with their kit.
I have a set of used Kury standard length forwards I'm looking to sell. I loaned them to a friend to try fitting on his 03 before he buys from me but I'm not sure he is going to keep them because his shifter seems to be siezed on the spline and he doesn't want to mess anything up and may be trading his bike soon anyway. Let me know if interested and I'll check with him on it.
The description say 2" Extended Kit Fits Dyna 2006 & Up with mid control, so I would hope the kit contains what you need. The dealer is probably going to want to take out the shifter shaft that runs through the primary case and seal up the holes. There have been do it yourself posts here about alternate methods to deal with the shaft, like cutting it to relieve the interference on the inner side, and cap the outer side of the shaft.
You may want to call Kint and find out what their instructions say, perhaps there is another way, or their kit provides the clearance like I think the Kury one does.
$750 !!!! I don't know where you are, but my dealer charges $177 for the entire install if you have the parts. i would do it myself, but don't want to mess with the primary as I am not seasoned enough with Dyna's yet. Shop around, you could find a better price than that I would suppose...
