FWIW when I switched from my mini apes to the drag bars, I had an ache in my mid back for the first couple of rides. It no longer occurs so it is possible that the ache will go away once your shoulder is used to the position.
Also being much happier with the bike and more comfortable, you will find you relax more and these sort of tensions may just disappear. Great to hear we have helped you out!
Turning a motorcycle at speed is not easy, what limit my speed is the grip of my tires. When my front tire start to slip means back off. The weight of the bike has a lot to do with it. I would suggest buy a Buell if you want to out turn the other bikes.
Practice, practice, practice is the one thing that helps.
Simple tips in turning
Step 1
Remember that in order to turn, your motorcycle must lean. Push on the left hand grip and lean to the left to turn left, and push on the right hand grip and lean right to go right.
Step 2
Roll on the throttle through the turn, keeping a steady speed or accelerating gently. Avoid slowing down in the midst of a turn.
Step 3
Keep in mind that during routine turns, you and your motorcycle must lean at the same angle. During slow, sharp turns, lean the motorcycle only and keep your body straight.

NO NO NO, no Buell! (Sorry buell riders, no offense intended). Seriously though, I do not want to out turn anyone - I just want to be comfortable on, and be able to handle MY bike

Yes, this I definitely agree on. Now that I have more comfort and have some of the confidence back that I had before I made some of the changes way back when, I can practice on overcoming some of my anxiety about wondering what's around those blind curves. I did so much better this past weekend, and that is the only thing left to conquer, I think.
