Got my tank back from paint, 06 low rider installed parts from old tank 09 fxd ,to painted tank. ,cut wires to idiot lights ,to relocate, same for fuel gauge. Installed handle bar top clamp, Got everything wired, went to connect neg. post back on batt. in my haste to get the bike ready for a run the next day I forgot to disconnect neg. cable, Now the bike runs like crap, sometime it idles then it doesnt , cuts out at speed , then its allright, alot of decel pop . ECM ?

sounds like you have a short circuit there oldman,and I don't understand your phrase there about the neg post & cable. sorry I couldn't be more help.

 

It does'nt sound like the ecm. Check fuses,re-check wiring job. If you put the fuel filter back in the tank,Check your crossover hoses inside the tank. It could even be crappy gas with sediment. Also before i forget, Check your fuel pump wires. Run a quick diagnostics check off your speedo and see if you get a code.

 

If all you cut were the wires to the idiot lights and the fuel guage and the ignition was off, you shouldn't have had a problem. Those wires carry no current when the ignition is off. I'd look elsewhere.
