while on my way down to the eastern shore I hit a bump off an exit ramp at about 65
behind me was my kuryakyn tombstone bag attached to my dt sissy bar and a way she went
draggin on the pavement lucky I had a back up strap which saved my bag and sissy bar
(I know you anti add anything to the bob guys are laughing) I checked all this out before leaving and I know that it was "LOCKED IN" anyway the straps were ruined as the back sissy bar pad was tore up a little
had extra straps with me in the "detachable saddle bags " so retied it off and was gone
the bag doubles as a backrest but I found it to be "in the way"
I just installed the rigid mount but kept the side taillite stalks. It was gonna be a PITA to get that long bolt out w/o unbolting one of the shock mounts to get the tire out of the way so I used a file and hacksaw to slot out the bottom of the rear bolt hole so it just slips down on the rear bolt spacer. The rear always has downward pressure so there are no worries and now all I have to do is loosen the rear bolt and remove the front bolt ,which is easy, and I can lift the sissy bar off. It's not a quick detach but it's isn't real slow either.
I wanted to add that my co worker who has a softail blamed my suspenion as being archaic in design
and could not handle "rough roads"
yes I told him to f himself

Is that a medium low Tommay? As to the original poster thats why I plan on buying the rigid mout. I think the detach is fine for a passenger, but prolly not for carrying stuff. And being that the dynas aren't baggers and the sissy bar bags are pretty much the bread and butter for carrying stuff on a dyna, ya need a good solid post to strap stuff to, not something that is "quick deatch". Glad you were able to save it though!
I'm not sure,it was in that pile of crap that I bought off ebay that you guys were teasing me about. But it cleaned up like new and the scull I bought covered the only blemish and I bought the pad new at Harley. It measures about 13 inches from the top of the side mount to the top of the sissybar.
I have been running a detachable backrest with a luggage rack since 04 and never a problem. Once that thing is locked a hammer won't get it off. Anyway I am glad this did not cause you more problems than it did. Sounds like it could have been way worse..Was this a Harley Davidson detachable or an aftermarket ???
