I was at the dealer picking up parts and asking parts guy about some HD stubby risers. He went in the back and came out with some stubby risers + new bolts and said ( here you can have these). I almost hit the floor. Dealer doesn't give anything away. So I only though it would be fair to buy some apes off of him. I bought some 12" chrome narrow Burly apes. Today I wanted to get started on the project. I drained and removed the tank. Went to loosen the bar clamp and was finger tight (oops). This is my first bar install on a harley. One question I have is the switch plugs in the backbone. When you unclasp the harness from under the fender, do the plugs come out far enough to unplug easily. Have not gotten that far yet. Will not see my bars until Wednesday just wanted to get the tank off first. I have some photo's. Will post more as I go along.
Wow! That sounds like a good dealer! dayum. Your scoot is going to rock with apes. Post up some finished pics. Can't really help ya out here, as I've never done it, but good luck!
yes, the plugs come out to the tip of the front of the frame. Pull the wiring about as far as you can. One connector is in further than the other. Take off the battery box and it makes the wiring a lot easier to get through the frame.
Here are some more pics. Waiting on parts J&P cycles is being slowwww on shipping. Bought SS brake line and clutch line. Throttle cables reach. The wiring kit was on back order.
What you need to do is pull the rubber cover on the inside of the rear fender so you acces the service loop, then gently pull the harness out the neck and at the same time push the harness at the back fender to get to the plugs, this is a good time to relocate your turn signals to if you need to. There is not need to pull the tank or battery box, Then the fun part is getting the service loop back in the hole at the rear fender I have done this about 5 times, it gets easier each time got any questions pm me
I already had gotten the wiring harness out of the frame. I already wired my bars. I order a 20" wiring extention kit through J&P and waiting for it. Today I put my controls, grip and hooked up the throttle cables. Setup the bars and torqued everything down. The bars look and feel great. My self like the directionals on the handlebars, they look good to me. I slid everything back on to get a feel for what the finish product looks like. Here are some more pics.
