quick disconnect fuel fitting is leaking...
This is kinda funny because it happened to me the day I went to pick my bike up after the paint and install of my tins. The last thing we did was connect the fuel line. I started the bike and it poured out the disconnect. I called a couple dealers and got the same crap that I had to order the entire unit and it would be 7-10 days to get it. I was so pissed that they seriously wouldn't try to find an o-ring in the shop that worked so I went down to Carquest and bought a variety pack of o-rings and found one that matched. It has been working perfectly for months now.
Fuel will not flow from the disconnect unless there is something wrong with it.
and the dealer wants to selll me an arm and a leg worth of parts cause his lil drawing in the book doesn't show a seperate O ring? anyone have this problem? It started leakin on a trip last summer and we stopped by napa and was able to shove another o ring in there and get it to stop and it's still workin. But now I'm leaving for Vegas in 5 weeks and I would like to make sure it is fixed right...
Finally got home from work and found a bag of various sized o-rings at Autozone, popped out the chewed up one, lubed and put in a matching new one... no leak. Most expensive part of the fix goes to my local HD dealership for charging me 15% of the valve assembly cost even though I cancelled the order and it STILL hasn't arrived. Way to win business, they win again. But end result is a $10 bill and putting in that o-ring was WAY easier than it looked like putting in a new valve assembly would be. Thanks again to this forum, read it MINUTES after ordering that part from the dealer... wish I dug a little deeper before I did that.
I just experienced the O ring failure on my 2007 FLHTC It"s a shame that Harley won't stock and sell that part. I found the part on line from someone who had already crossed that bridge.I thank whom ever that was because they were right on. The part is a John Deere part # R26286 and Wiengartz had it in two days.Iused a mirror and a dental pick to remove it from the quick disconnect, and a little white lith. grease and the dental pick to replace it, took all of a couple of minutes and a couple of bucks I ordered a extra one and put it in my tour pack one never knows it might come in handy on the road one of these days.
Couple of questions. I've got the same thing going on on an 08 Low Rider. I can not get the drain plug o-ring (#41) to fit. Any chance they could be different? Also in the fuel line that connects to the QD is there supposed to be an o-ring there as well? I appears that there is (was) or it's the remains of the one that was supposed to be above.
Thanks!
Thanks!
JPCycles sells a rebuild kit, PN 632-840. they also sell the lower o-ring by itself. Worked for me. They also sell the Fuel-Tool rebuild tool set, but it didn't seem worth the money and I got along fine without it. Just a little silicon to help things along.
