I was referring to the fact that if you don't know the part number for just that o-ring, they'll try to force you to buy the whole kit again. Someone in the thread did mention that o-ring was not listed on the parts sheet for separate purchase.
I can give you a prime example.
I happened to be at the dealer and inquired about the plastic mesh that fits over the harness. They wouldn't sell just the mesh. I would have had to order a whole new harness. Does that make sense?

this place is great for finding odd ball part numbers that my local dealler can't even find. I don't know how you guys do it. I fixed it last night and got a o ring from the local parts store.... but with that part number I might just go back into the dealer and talk to the same guy and order a couple spares for 26 pennys
I don't blame harley themselves.... just my local dealer, never had real god luck with them. But what kinda help do ya expect to get when they are underpaying guys right outa high school to run the parts counter.....
Ask the parts jerk for part #11323 That's the Harley part # for the o-ring.
I'm pretty sure that part number goes between the fitting and the tank (the exploded view isn't very clear). It sounds like DYJ needs the o-ring that goes on the QD fitting which isn't in the parts manual.
Most o-rings of good quality should hold up to gas just fine. I replaced mine with a generic one last year and it's still doing fine (bought five and keep one with the bike just in case).
Same thing here. The first time I put the tank on I try to force the QD fitting on. Nicked the o-ring. Local indie says it happens all the time. Harley mecs keep a box of them on hand. I go to dealer. Gotta buy the assembly to get the o-ring. I pass. I check the o-rings in my kit. The o-ring thats a little thicker won't work. Can't push the QD in. Tried one that looks looks a little thinner. Works with no problems.
I also use the kit o-rings for my push rod tubes on my Shovel. I was told the o-rings need to be oil/gas resistant. But I have had no problems. Thay are actually easier to install that any I o-rings that I have ever bought that were made for Harleys. I have been using them for several years.
Thanks a bunch, already ordered the assembly for $50... gonna go see if I can get an o-ring in there... If the part shows up I'll just pay the difference for shipping it to the dealer. Any of you guys install the quick-disconnect assembly? Big hassle? I have the tank off already. I'll check out the manual to see if it has steps for that. Now off to find o-rings.
when the quick connect is pulled off does gas come out or does the pump have to run also ive used silcone and vasoline on o rings to keep from nicking them small amount
