Default Need some Wide Glide conversion help.....

I've done an bunch of searching on this topic but I still have a few questions. I have a 06 Street Bob that I need to do a wide glide conversion on to make my new wheels fit. Is there a difference between the 06-07 and 08-up triple trees? I'm looking at four options for triple trees either stock wide glide, Cass County Choppers, accutronic or V-twin Mfg. What do you guys recommend? Is it hard to switch the stem between triple trees, they are press fit correct? And if i'm correct all I should need is triple trees, a wide glide axle, and fender spacers.

Thanks,
Matt

I did a WG conversion back in October. I went with Cass County and regret my choice. The customer service sucked. The stem was too long. The fork stops are not located in the proper positions in the lower tree, and the steering lock doesn't line up. The trees look good, but I wish I had spent the money and gone with the Accutronix.

Here is a link to a site offering the Accutronix trees for $379.00, which is a great price.

http://www.twistedsteelchoppers.com/...&productId=688

To offer a list, here are the components I purchased for my conversion:

WG laced wheel with 1" bearings
WG chrome lowers for 06 and up Wide Glide
WG 1" axle for 96-07 Wide Glide
WG 1" chrome axle spacers for 06 - 07 Wide Glide
(4) 5/16" x 3/4" chrome spacers for the fender

The trees you order should come with a new stem. The trees I purchased included the stem, but it did not come pressed in. I used a piece of PVC pipe and the steering head nut and washer to pull the new stem into the lower tree.

Here is a link to the thread I started about my conversion. I believe you can find part numbers and maybe more info about the job there:

i went with the v-twin trees and wideglide axle. nice finish and bolted up with no problems.the stem was already attached to the trees. the wheel I'm using was made for a wideglide hub so it fit right the first time. I'm not going to run a fender so i don't know about the spacer size but i think its 3/4".

Thanks guys that helps me out a bunch! I'm leaning towards the V-twin stuff because of the price. But I'm a little confused on which parts I need. They have the separate parts listed as

24-1202 Top Tree $117.00
24-1217 Lower Tree $157.00

$274.00

But they also have a set listed with seems to have both and the bearings. Is anyone familar with this?

24-1310 Triple Tree Set, Chrome Fits 2006-UP FXDWG $257.00

Also can you order direct from them or do I need to find a dealer?

Thanks,

Matt

I don't know about the specific part numbers, but if you get the set with bearings, the job gets a little more complicated. New bearings should be used with new races. Ideally, races should be pressed in the steering neck. Not everyone will be equipped for this.

If you get just the trees and new stem, it is much simpler as your old bearing will slide off the old and slide on the new.

I don't know of a way to buy directly through V-Twin. I think you will find you need to go through an authorized dealer. Might check with one of the sponsors such as Phat Performance.
