Default + length control cables for street bob.

im in the middle of my custom hogrida ape (15" rise, 2" riser extensions) install and i was looking for info on + length idle, throttle, and clutch cables. i looked up the info in the drag specialties fatbook (which is down at the moment and cant link ya to it). i found drag part numbers for +6 cables for my 08 fxdb. 0651-0500 idle cable, 0650-0842 throttle cable, and 0652-0446 clutch cable. they also give the length of the cables in the fatbook.

but when i measured my cables i got the same length as they stated for the +6" cables. now i measured from the tip of the 90* bend where it enters the handle bars, to where the covering stops at throttle body, this may not be the correct way to measure cables??? so that got me worried about ordering these... should cables be measured just by the oustide covering length, or what?

i took the drag part numbers to my local HD dealer and he looked them up in his paper copy of the fatboook and it said one of them was for a buell (also got me worried about correct info from fatbook online)

did you put longer cables on your street bob or dyna, got part numbers?, links?, or lengths? or other info you can share??

now for a preview of this project (full article to come when the job is complete)

Looks good Shimmon. I have my list from JPCycles from 3 years ago. My cables are all Barnett except for the brakeline is GoodRich.

520-945 Black Clutch Cable (+6) $59.99 (+6 was too much)
520-924 Black Idle Cable (+6) $39.99
520-909 Black Throttle Cable (+6) $39.99
241-758 50" black Brake Line $43.99
241-763 10MM 35 degree banjo $17.99
241-762 12MM straight banjo $16.99

They were kinda pricey but I didn't feel like shopping around.

Yeah i did see they have a +3 clutch cable (0652-0445) but i didnt want to get it too short and be stuck with it or something. I was gonna get my cables thru zanotti's to get a good discount, but longer wait.

I am gonna do some better figuring to see if a +3 will work for me. Thanks for the info guys!

i am hoping my brake line will work, but its a little tight. i wonder how much the forks will extend when there is no weight on them(might make brake line really tight, not good, guess i need to throw it on a jack) i should probably replace it for safty's sake...

just looked at the info from jp... looks like the total length is measured by the casing only and not the metal ends. and overall length is what drag stated. so i guess im safe getting them thru zanottis. but i want to measure my clutch cable better.

hogrida... how tall are your bars? are they about the same as mine, they look pretty close in the pics. if they are i think a +3 clutch cable would be perfect.

My measure out @ 15.5" tall. But they are only 28" grip to grip. I think you had me make your wider but I don't remember. I would think +3 is good. Mine is way too long.

Here's a link to an instruction video on how to determine correct cable lenght after having changed bars/risers; it starts at 3:17

I believe the measurements are taken from end of housing to the other. the throttle and Idle are taken from end to the inner begining of the 90 degree so that is why you are coming up the same on the plus 6". My bob I have a 16 inch burly Narrows and went with 74" Clutch, 39.5" Throttle/Idle and a 54" brake line with 35 degree 12mm and 90 degree 10mm banjo.
