Default HD real sound

Hi y'all, I'm a newbie, fresh on today. I have been reading all I can about pipes, closed loop EFI, HiFlo A/C etc but I have a simple (ish) question.

When my brand new '07 Bob arrives in 2/3 weeks (flat black - natch) I am guessing it won't sound adequately Harleyish, fresh out of the box. I'm not so worried that there won't be enough power or torque for me BUT will I be able to change-out the silencers (mufflers as you so quaintly term them) for something with a bit of oomph and still leave the stock A/C - pipes/O2 sensors - original mapping in place?

I quite like the look of long shots or street sweepers but I don't know if the stock EFI/map will run lean? All I want is a reasonable sound!! Not too loud - say like an elephant farting through a quilt.

I do realise I would have to mod them with bungs for the lambda sensors, but I would have to paint them black anyway.

Any ideas?

As long as you don't change the A/C to SE K&N you don't have to remap.

I don't know if we can help you get that classic elephant-farting-through-a-quilt sound, but, we may be able to help you get in to the ballpark. Maybe a rhino-burping-through-a-cheesecloth?

If you can get your hands on some SEII slipons or maybe Cycleshack slipons, you could run them with your stock A/C and EFI. However, it will run much better if you at least got a download to go along with it. Best bet is to go with pipes, high-flow A/C and some sort of fueler.

Whiff

Thanks chaps, I was hoping initially just to swap pipes whilst under warranty to avoid any probs, and then save up the money for a closed loop/prgrammable set-up later with a better A/C etc. The bike is running me equal to 18,5K USD just with forward pegs!

But nonetheless, I can't wait. It will be my first HD

All the best.

I heard an 07 street bob with stock pipes a few weeks ago. I think HD has made an attempt to make them a little louder than the 06 pipes (just a theory). I would stick with the stocks for a while and give the aftermarket folks some time to come up with some pipes for the Bob. This being the second model year, we should see a few more things available. There will surely be a lot of options in the 3rd year. You'll hear about them here. After all, I think half of our member ship consists of SB owners!

I would wait and hear how the new stock mufflers sound when you're bike arrives, they may just sound like that elephant farting through a quilt.

congrats on the new ride... trust me (most people don't),LOl... but,the bob will have plenty of power !!! not to worry . pipes are a personal thing. i like my se2's .loud, but, not to loud for my tastes. easy on that puppy while breaking her in,per harley orders.

go to a few bike get togethers, and listen to different pipes to give you some ideas. if you get pipes you do not like, trust me (most people don't), you can sell them and not loose much... you might find like some of us,you just might hate the oem brick seat. there again, personal preferance for sure. i like the harley sundowner. what did bob set you back ? if ok to ask ?
