Default electric grip warmers

I recently paid to have installed a set of aftermarket electric grip warmers (they didn't have HD brand in stock) by my local HD dealer. They were unable to install them so they are connected through the ignition. They installed them so they are always on. There is a switch to turn them off, but if you forget to turn them off - goodbye battery.
I have a 2007 FXDC. Why couldn't my dealer install them so they are switched throught the igintion?

Your dealer's mechanics are lazy or stupid.

You should not have accepted it like that.

Page 8 of the HD instruction sheet tells where to hook up the switched wire. That switched wire will work for any accessory HD or not.

Thanks icecaps - I thought so - I'm taking it in Monday to get it done right.

They should connect the wires to a "switched" wire (e.g. taillight). I connected my heated grips (on my Ducati) to the taillight as it is a "switched" wire...meaning, if the grips are left on - there will be no power when the iginition is shut off.
