Cool

I have an 01 FXDX which takes a 150X80X16-inch tire. They make them all day every day. I see you have an 07 and they probably switched sizes huh? I hope they make that size cause I really do like these tires.

BTW thanks for the feedback on the Night Dragons. I think I may try them!

Seems like there are a lot more options for a 16" wheel.

No, in fact I am not running a recommended Avon rear, as I have made various mods to my bike. It is however a Venom, because they make one that meets my needs. Avon do not make a Venom for the rear of your bike, but they recommend an alternative model from their range.

Yes, I want to take advantage of the rebate because I am short on funds and that is why I wanted to get more feed back on the tire because I also want a great handling tire and do not like to change what works for an unknown when I have limited funds, but would not mind saving a few bucks on a safe good handling tire.
That's entirely understandable! I'm out of work at present.

I also said I did not want to make this about mixing so lets not be pissy about my personal preference.
Whoa there! All I have done is point out what Avon recommends for your bike. If they say mixing types is OK I am not going to argue with them!

I went ahead and sent Avon a message and I'll bet you that they say to refer to the motorcycle manufacturers recommendations, just like Dunlop, Metzeler and Pirelli have, so that leaves me where?
I do appreciate your input.

I would expect Avon to endorse their own tyres for your bike, as per their website, which I quoted from earlier. Dunlop may be Harley's tyre of choice, but most of the other tyre makers are probably keen to encourage us to use their tyres instead of Dunlops.

I have been riding for decades and covered almost half a million miles on bikes and have never used the recommended tyres as replacements for the many brands of bikes I have owned, because they are seldom very good. My first new Harley had Goodyears and I wouldn't wish them on anyone!

As for new tyres for your bike, you can obviously get a rebate for a Venom front, but unfortunately you can't for a replacement rear. I personally never mix brands. You have to decide to get the recommended Avon rear, at whatever they cost, or buy a different brand if you can get a pair for less.

As for Avons, the reason I prefer them is because they have excellent grip in all weathers, handle extremely well when riding quickly, are comfortable because they use clever designs to give a good quality ride, and give decent tyre life. If you do buy Avons, check their website, because they often recommend slightly higher pressures (see my earlier post for them), which may be different from your owners handbook.

And best of luck! If you chose Avons I expect you will be very pleased with them. I have been using them for almost 40 years! I am just sorry you can't get a rebate on them both!

There are three sizes suitable for us Harley riders. Avon makes a stock size 130/90 equivilent to an MT, a 140/90 which is similar to a MU, as well as a 150/80 which is also rated MU. All will fit a 3" stock rim.

Having previously mentioned writing to Avon with any queries, they actually recommended I use their 140/90 on my old Glide in preference to their 130/90, because they reckon when 2-up and fully loaded the MT is close to its limit on loading. It was a small leap of logic to use their 150/80 instead, which with various mods just squeaks into my 1990 FLHS!

That's the tire I put on the front. I can't believe how much of a difference it made over the stock Dunlop. The front end is way more stable. Went with the stock size Storm on the back and love the results. I don't know if there is more lean angle, but I feel more confident carving corners.

To those who have the the Avon Venom front tire how is it working out? Does it really stick good in the corner and what are you mixing with it on the rear? I don't really need a front tire right now, but I figured I would buy the front, then use the $25 gift card to help pay for a New rear Night Dragon that I am going to need sooner than later and I then have a front tire when the time comes.

I have an 02 wideglide and put on the Avon 90x90x21 and it sticks way better than the stock 80x90x21 I also stayed with the dunlop on the rear for wear purposes. I tried the avon on the rear and it stuck goood, but, I only got about 6200 miles out of it so I went back to the dunlop where I get about 9500 miles. With 99k on the bike, I change tires regularly. I know what people say about matched tires but I raced for years and feel if the front is stickier than the rear, that's ok but I wouldn't run the stickier rear without the same stick on the front. I can handle the *** end sliding out a bit but if the front lets go, you are in a bing in short order.---jack

I put Venoms front and rear on my 98 fxd last week. I've got about 300 miles on them now and no issues. I like them so far. I haven't done any peg scraping yet, but they do seem to dig into the corners pretty damn good when I hit the on and off ramps a little hot.

Default Response from Avon Tires

Hi CB, you can mix radial and bias tires but the radial has to be used on the rear. This combination is recommended for your bike and will not be a problem.
