First I would like to say hello and thanks for all the info I have recently discovered on this site.
I have a 2000 fxdx and was wondering if anyone has changed the tank console from the stock one that always seems to have the rubber edging coming loose to anything else? Is there a seam in the tank underneath that or could I get a console that just wraps around the fuel gauge and cap and not run all the way down the tank to the seat?
After reading all your posts I went and bought a bike jack from sears last night, How did I ever live without one of these! I am not sure I have figured out the best place to have the jack underneath before raising so if anyone has any info on that or a pic that would be awesome.
There are a number of sites that offer different consoles to cover that nasty welded seam under the stocker, If you do a google search , you should find many of them, or check custom chrome, J&P, dennis kirk, fog hollow just to name a few
You 're probably going to need the adapters for that jack from the dealer (about $20) for a dyna because the trans/oil pan hangs down lower than the frame so it will fall off the jack.
TCSTD is right, you will need the adapter for the jack, get it from HD for around $20. If you go to muthuh.com he has a really cool way of riding your bike up and onto the jack.
Thanks for the replies and info. I ran up to HD and picked up the adapters for my jack and it looks like they will make a big difference because they allow you to lift the bike and keep the center of balance where it needs to be. I did get a little info that I will share if anyone is interested and maybe others already do this but the guy at HD told me he doesn't use the tie down hooks on the jack since they tend to be right in your way so he drilled a couple holes in his cement floor and screws in 2 eye bolts to hook his tie downs too instead, one to each side of the handlebar. Then removes the eye bolts so his wife doesn't trip over them and kick his @ss when not in use. Just and idea if anyone is interested.
As for the Dyna tank console, I looked at the 05 models and I really like those tank covers alot better, No more gas cap would be nice. I see they mount with a single bolt on the seat side verse what I have on my 2000 but I am gonna look it over tonight and see if it looks like they are still the same tanks and if the newer console would attach some how??
THX again for all the help, Greatly appreciated!
