Guys I need a little help. I ride an 06 SB and have the stock shocks on it. I have 20,000 miles on it and the shocks are starting to bottom out some. I am looking for the best deal on shocks without paying through the nose for them. I am retired and do live on a limited budget. I would check on Harley but they are always higher than the other makers. Does anyone have a anyninformation or web sites for me to go to and look. I do the minor repairs to my bike. They do not look to hard to put on. I bought a Sundowner seat to help the ride which is great with the back support, but I am 63 yrs. old and looking for more comfort.
Best suspension mod I did was to install some Progressive 440s. They bare a bit pricey but I got a good deal. Their 412 model has a more reasonable price and from what ZI hear they are still pretty good. I changed mine out at about 4k miles and the improvement was incredible so at 20k that you have anything would probably be better. Some times people sell take offs in the classified section here but in my opinion, no matter how little the mileage is on them, the factory one are not worth the money.

Shocks are pretty easy to change. Like with a lot of things, you get what you pay for. Have you tried using a spanner wrench to adjust your stock shocks. A little more preload might fix the bottoming out problem without replacing the shocks. I'm only suggesting this because you're on a limited budget.
i have a set of shocks off my wideglide they prob have 1000 miles i went with prog 11 inchers and have regretted it but i am willing to put up with the harsher ride for the lowered look pm if ou want my shocks
+1 on adjusting the stock shocks to increase preload. You can also find some take off shocks from another forum member..That's what I did and have been running them for about 1 1/2 years. BTW they are fatbob shocks. I didn't pay that much for them.
I just got through reading on another forum and they were talking about using the spanner wrench and I found that some used the rubber wrench called the TWIST OFF on there shocks so as to not damage the chrome. Sounds like a good idea to me. Cheaper to me that the dearler wrench. I appreciate all the info. I will check on the numbers tomorrow and try and adjust them.

"Salute" to you, on that offer to lobanion. This is the kind of things that made me start visiting this forum.
Steve-O, I sent you a private message. Guys I greatly appreciate your asstance with the shock problem. I rode to the dealer today and they helped me with the belt guard problem by taking it off and straighting it out the best that they could and also painted it for me. They also adjusted the shocks for me. They are turned clockwise to stiffen them. Mine are ok, not as good as the progressive but they feel better.
I hope that I did not give the impression that I am destitute. I am a retired cop and do live on a retirement and SS. My wife still works. What I should have said is that I have to put a little aside for my bike, not go spend hundreds of dollars at one time. I am truly sorry if I gave that impression.
Again I appreciate all your help.
Retired cop or like me, a disabled plumber, living on a fixed income is hard to find the bucks for the little extras.
