Hi
I have a 01 Dyna with carburetor.
When I turn the ignition switch to start the engine sometimes the ignition lights come on and sometimes they don't.
If the ignition lights do come on when I try to start the engine sometimes its starts and sometimes it just makes a clicking sound.
If I do manage to get the engine running, when on the bike it seems as though it's 'missing', the speedo gauage shoots up and down to the speed I'm doing and the digital mileometer flashes on and off. Other times and can run ok.
I've put a new Odessey battery on and checked all the obvious stuff like leads/connections etc. Any advice would be greatly apreciated because I'm at a dead end!
My bad!! As that being the case, it should be relatively easy to correct. Does the op have a service manual on the bike? Fuel + fire + air = a running engine. It sounds like multiple issues, one being the start circuit and two being either the fuel or ignition systems, or both. Is the gas fresh? what do the spark plugs look like? Coil, plugs, plug wires? Carb clean, fuel filter, lines? The list goes on. First, get the start circuit working consistently, then you can start finding the run problems. You really should have the service manual and run through the flow charts. Or, you could just find a good indy shop and be done with it...
