Default Front Brake Switch

I've got an 08 Fat Bob and the front brake lever activates the brake light like normal but will not deactivate until I push the lever out. I'm thinking there is a worn return spring at the lever assembly. Pulled the cover off the throttle assembly but went no further. Looked like I was going to take a watch apart and didn't want the whole assembly springing loose on me. I'm still under warranty, but have done a few things to the bike and worried that HD will nail me ie: 10 WG rear fender, PCV, pipes, relocated the turn sigs myself, wired a side mount license plate.

Any ideas? Anybody have the same problem? If so, can you give me a part number.

See my thread: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/7035729-post1.html

I think this might be a problem prone to Fat Bob's. .something to do with the dual caliper front end. It's either the pistons not being clean or the plunger that pushes the lever back to its resting position being 'sticky.' I haven't taken mine in yet.

Some more info here: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...ver-issue.html

So you have the same problem! I think I'll make an appointment today for it. Nice try with flushing everything. So I take it that there is no return spring, just the piston at the brake handle that should create enough back pressure to push the handle back.

Correct. When you pull the lever in, it pushes on the plunger and forces fluid down to the calipers. When you let go, that fluid 'should' push the plunger back out and force the lever to it's forward position, which would deactivate your brake lights.

Check the tightness on the mount bolt that goes through the handle itself. If it is too tight it can close up the lever perch and cause it to bind.

It all torqued properly. The problem is definitely internal.

so I guess I'll take it in to the dealer for a warranty call. What do you think they'll say about the PCV, new fender home and brewed turn signal relocation?

I had the same problem with my brake light switch,
turns out that I damaged the switch rubber after levers removed/replaced.
take your lever off and check this.
quick fix to make my brake light to work again, used some electrical tape on lever where it contacts the switch, so applies switch more.
will have to replace the switch come winter.

I had a sticky switch on my FXDC, shot a little silicone spray on the plunger, and works fine now.
