Default internal frame deffintion?

I was reading a arctical about the 06 FXDI. It says it has a narror "internal" frame and dual external shocks

What do they mean by internal frame?

Does that refer to the frame being partialy covered by the body work as opposed to the V-Rod frame?

thanks
