So I just bought a 98 Dyna Super Glyde. it does not have fwd controls. I took it out for my first ride today. We pull into a bbq joint for lunch and the shifter pretty much falls out of the primary. We thought a bolt came unthreaded, figure i have to get a new bolt and ill be good to go. We trailor it home and come to find out the weld that holds the shifter to the linkage is gone. so i need a new piece. lucky for me a buddy of mine has the piece.
so heres my options
A: take it to the dealership to have this portion of the linkage inserted through the primary because thats skills i do not posses. pay 2 or 3 hundred bucks to have this junk in working condition again.
B: buy fwd controls, for about 350 and put them on myself, think i can handle that job.
so has anyone with average automotive skills and no motorcycle maint experience ever installed fwd controls on 98 dyna super glide?
Forward control install is an easy mod. to do, even if you don't have
motorcycle experience. I put them on my 95 superglide, and I will never
have a bike with mid controls again. I love the forwards controls.
I think you are going to have to plug the cross shaft holes in your primary covers, both inside and outside covers...
I didn't on my '99 FXDX I sold to get the current scoot. Just left the inside portion on, just laid it back out of the way...never saw it unless you went looking real hard. HD made a cap to fit over the shaft on the outside of the cover.
