Just to clarify whenI say the metal wasn't smooth.
The wrinkle finish gets stripped off, but i guess the metal has imperfections that needed to be smoothed out since it wasn't intended to be perfect for chroming.

I am looking for a Street Bob console for my Superglide that I will have chromed. I am then powdercoating the plat part by the gauge black and putting a Dakota Digital tach in there. Should look pretty neat when finished.

I don't think it was painted on the back side.
it probably did have a coating on it or I'd think the backside would rust.
The chromer stripped everything so i don't know the details.
