I just bought new engine gaurds for my '06 FXDI. They suck! The bottoms do not bolt to the frame where you expect them to. I would have thought they should bolt to the holes in the frame where your highway pegs usually mount, but NNOOOOOO. HD supplies U BOLTS that wrap around the bottom of your frame, then bolt thru the engine gaurd. What kind of cheap-*** way is this to bolt on an engine gaurd? You will bugger up your paint on the frame when you tighten down these U bolts. I dod not plan on scratching my frame's new paint, I just bought the friggin bike. And the picture in the catalog does not show you how they bolt on, so how would you know untill you bought one and brang it home? This is bullshit.
i know crappy design.all i did was take some thin rubber strips and wrap it around the frame before bolting down.
Good idea. Is that two diff bikes or just conversion?
keith, are you talking about my streetbob and my tourbob?its the same bike.just custom designed a tourpak on it.here is a link for more information on converting your bike to a tourbike >>>>TOURPACK CONVERSION INFO<<<<
I'm not thrilled with the appearance of the lower mounts either. Mine came with what appears to be heat shrink on the U bolts so paint scratching is not an issue. I bought the bar from an HR Forum-ite and he may have added them. I'll take the potential protection to bars and other parts from falls and slow slides as a worthwhile the trade off. A front spoiler kit that covers the motor mounts as well as the bar mounts would be really cool.
