I have a 2002 FXDL and the speedometer isn't working. The back light is working, & the odometer reads 11K miles. When the key is turned "on" the needle goes all the way down (to zero) and then bounces up a little bit (as if it just calculated itself). When I drive there is no movement at all. Thanks for any help in advance.

 

Could be the speedo sensor has to be cleaned. On my FXD2003 it is situated r/h side on the transmission housing.

Had a hitch in the odometer a few years ago, took off the sensor and cleanded it with a rag.... problem solved!

 

+1 with cleaning the sensor, may want to check the plug connections under the seat. If the pins are dirty/corroded, clean 'em up.
