2001 Wide glide
What are the pro's and cons of the 2001 wide glide model. I have found a low mileage 2001 wide glide but have no knowledge of this model. I have owned a 2009 Nightster, 2004 Softail and currently own a 2010 FLHXXX trike. I enjoy the trike, however I miss the feeling of two wheels and was looking for something that me and the wife could take short trips on around town.
In my experience, the wide glide is an excellent choice. Especially in terms of a bar-hopper. Good power and throttle response out of the carb models. I know virtually nothing of the fuel-injected models.
You do need to be aware of the cam bearing and tensioner problems however. They are said to be problamatic after 30,xxx miles, but it all comes down to maintenance and how the bike was treated in my opinion. For a wide glide under about 12k and 50,xxx miles its usually a good buy, especially if the cam isues have been addressed. But the cam problems are not instant, the develope noise and so-forth before it become a major malfunction.
My Advice to you, is to check the bike over, ask questions about mileage and maintenace records, and decide for yourself.
Just my two-cents on the subject, but good luck to you man.

Thanks for the replys. The bike is listed as having only 3300 miles on it. I am kind of leary on that one for an 01 model you would think that it would have more miles on it than that. It is at a car lot, but they seem to be pretty reputable, but you never know.
I bought a 99 with 18K on it....I am the third owner. The bike was maintained very well and the bike is in great shape, absolutely no problems
Just check it over and you should be good to go.....if it is a dealer, ask them to give you a car fax. you can also take the VIN to a dealer and they will give you any Harley service history. If there is none there, it was either serviced by an independent shop, by the owner, ....or not serviced at all
