FXDC or FXST
Well I was already to buy either the FXST of the FXSTD this weekend until I saw the FXDC. Now I don’t know what to do again? I have made up my mind that I will not buy the FXSDT because it’s not really set up for two-up riding in my opinion.
I like FXDC over the FXST because of the all the chrome. The price is about the same so that’s not an issues.
I looked at the specs for the FXDC and my XL not much of a difference, except of course for the BT which I really like and seat height. So with that being said I figured I would ask you Dyna’s folks a few questions. My wife likes to ride with me but she does not like the ride of my XL1200R and made it very clear that she would not be going on any more trips until I upgraded my bike. I certainly understand her issues we get blown around way too much on the highway. Plus extended riding can be very tiring because of the riding position of my XL. So here are a few questions if you folks don’t mind?
1. How is the FXDC suited for two up riding (highway cruising)? It looks to me with a few mod’s it would be okay. Talking three to four hour rides?
2. My 1200 will bottom out even with the stocks fully adjusted for two up riding. My wife is about 130 lbs so I don’t think weight is an issue, does the FXDC have the same problem?
3. I’m about 6’ and the XL is a little cramped. Since there is not much of a difference between the FXDC and XL in length and rake will I get tried on the FXDC as well? I did sit on the FXDC for while and it felt good, however before I bought my XL I sat on it for a while and it felt good as well until the long rides.
Thanks folks.

Can't speak for 2up riding, but with a good seat the FXD will let you ride hundreds of miles without wearing you out.
It is a completely different ride than the Sporty.
Have you considered a RoadKing, or StreetGlide??

I don't have an FXDC but I do have an FXDI. I put a sundowner seat on it because it came with a solo. My wife also weighs 130. We went for a 3 hr ride yesterday and she liked it. The pass seat is 12" wide so plenty of room, the rider 16". I also put on a low sissy bar so as not to lose her. I am only 5'6" and 155 so I don't know how I compare to you but we did not bottom out once and I have changed out the shocks to the Harley low Dyna shocks.Believe me they don't have much travel. They were set on 2 out of the box so I left them there. With both of us on it actually handled better than just me. The FXDC does have mid controls but like you said some mods be needed. I don't have hiway pegs yet and coulda used them yesterday to stretch out. You would surely need them at 6'. It may seem like there is not much diff between them on paper but there is. The wheelbase is about the same FXDC (64.2) or FXST (64.5) and the FXST has a larger rake angle. the Dynas avg 640 lbs and FXST 654 not much diff. Good luck on your choice, I am sure you will enjoy.
FXDC gets my vote. No problem two up with detachable sissy bar and forward controls will really let you stretch out. I'm 6' and never get cramped up on long cruises. The extra chrome is just a bonus.

I am 245 and she is abt 130 and we cruise without any issues. Corners and slow runs are just fine!

The seat that came with the bike is not the best. I bought the sundowner and a full detachable backrest and WOW, major improvement for the wifey!

I am only 5'10" but put the highway pegs on the bike and able to stretch out better. Only issue was the sundowner seems to push me forward a little bit further than the seat that came with the bike. So, I just put on the sundowner only when wifey wants to cruise with me.
Good luck on your choice!! FXDCI is a real nice bike and has all the whisles and bells!! Yes, I am partial!!!

Well,... while I like the looks of both bikes. If you are looking for a clean looking bike that handles like a dream and is also good for 300 - 400 mile solo or two-up trips then the Dynas are the best Harley. I dont have any bottoming out problems on my 06 Superglide, but you will definately want to upgrade to a better seat and also add a sissy bar for the wife. I added a H-D Tallboy seat and a set of Hwy pegs and a Med-low sissy bar and backrest pad for the wife and we both enjoy short to medium rides, "just havent had a chance to do anything longer". I think that the only way to beat the comfort of the Dynas is to get a bagger, but thats only if your doing long rides, but then you will sacrifice the handling that you will get from the Dynas.
