I did the lowers, not the trees. I used Rustoleum satin black. It's been on there for a year and still looks good. I didn't do the trees cause those are bare aluminum and applying paint to bare aluminum can be tricky. The key to doing the lowers was prepping the surface. I used a Scotch abrasive pad and then cleaned it real good before applying the paint. They already have a clear finish on them so they where easy.
Did my lowers with rustoleum over the winter and its already chipped pretty bad even used a primer and painted it three coats. Need something heavier for sure appliance epoxy I've heard has good results also thought a spray on bed liner might hold up good and it would look different
i just got off the phone with a local powder coater who said he'd pc my trees & lowers for $50 (just wait a week or two & he'd throw them in with a batch of other stuff).
Hello all, Go for the powder coat!! got my lowers and trees pc'd about 3-4 years ago. Durable as hell and clean-up is a breeze with a rag dampened with windex. I chose Matt Black, A blend of 80% gloss and 20% flat black applied hot. looks real good too! And remember, Chrome will not get you home. :-)
$50 i thought it would cost a lot more then that. i think i might have to start making some phone calls. i'm in cali so it has to cost more here but i'll check it out.
Well picked the parts up from the powdercoater today. ended up being a 6-day turnaround.
Here it is put back together. storming bad here so I can't finish til tomorrow.
I don't wanna take anything away from Joe (the powder pro) cuz I respect the hell outta the guy. But if you live near bowling green, ky give em a call - it can't hurt.
I ended up having him do a little more work but the total still came up to less than $100.
Looks great! Gonna do my tree's this winter. I tell you something, that powdercoating parts is addictive as hell! I still need to post last winters mods, lots of PC, including my wheels! For some reason I didn't think about them when I had my front wheel off.
Yeah I painted my lowers, it didn't handle the stone chips so just had them powdered, yrs look good mate, I put the factory black fat bob trees on my street bob
