Default New Backrest

This weekend I'm planning on going with friends on a 550 mile jaunt. Now this is 3 times farther than I've evr been in 1 day and I'm a little nervous about bing able to go that far. Bikes in good shape...just serviced. Body(mine) is beat up pretty bad. So last night, I threw together a back rest to go with my HD touring seat, which is very comfy, yet has no slot for the traditional add-on backrest. So wanting to be able to remove it, I made it attach to an extra set of detachable side-plates from another project. Fits well enough with the addition of the 2x4 spacer. Here ya go:

first two pics are kind of dark, but from what I can see looks good. If it works for you, that's all that matters.

Looks like it should work, let us know in 550 miles!!! I would put anything on the part that looks like a rack until your 100% sure that the welds can hold up to the vibrations.

Looks good from what I can see. Also have a rack behind the backrest to put a bag or something. Good job.

Consider getting some storage while getting back support also.

Decided not to use it since I never had a chance to give it a good test. Didn't want to have to throw it aside during the trip. The HD touring seat, with its rear lip was all that was needed. Logged 428 miles, @ 2.5 times farther than I've ridden in one day. Only problem....after 15 hours at home, my right hand is still swollen and fingers numb. Might need to get that checked out. Also kinda wish my wife was along. We cruised to slow for me and having her along would have been nice. I think a bigger bike may be in the near future.
