Just nail the throttle and hang on ..........Yaaaaaahooooooooo!

After riding Kawasaki triple two strokes back in the seventys, and a shovelhead sturgis in the eightys, these new bikes handle just fine.

Few weeks back, I was running some twisties and on a righthander, I heard a solid metal scrape and felt the frame lift . I knew it wasn't the pegs because of the sound wasn't right and because I didn't feel anything with my foot. Also I hadn't seen anything on the road I might have hit.

We stopped for a break and I got down and looked under the bike. Turns out there is a muffler bracket bolted to the frame that is the lowest thing on the right side. Had bare metal showing where it hit. Theory is the rear "squatted" in the lean when I powered out of the turn.

Bike is a 06'Superglide, I weigh 220, the shocks were set halfway and the tires are stock, 32 &38 psi (checked daily).

Kind of spooked me so I'm taking it a little easier and thinking about getting better shocks..

I can't say about the 412's but I replaced the stock HD shocks on a 04 lowrider with progressive 440's. They are a little stiffer and on the highway I couldn't tell much difference between my stock shocks which were set on the highest setting and the 440's set on the lowest setting. But, in a curve holy, cow! night and day! no more wallowing in the curves but a rock solid lean. I mean these suckers love the twisties.

You can be scraping the pegs all the time but it doesn't mean you are cornering anywhere near the bikes potential.

You can really increase your cornering speed by shifting wieght porperly without tipping the bike over any further. I'm no riding instructor but I can corner much faster by moving my butt onto the inside edge of the seat and leaning right into the corner with my shoulder and knee, rather than focusing on scraping the pegs.

Of course if you scrape the pegs when you are doing this then you know you are really cornering these bikes well.

Some other options are fork braces and swingarm stabilizer, which will help when changing lines or hitting bumps etc throught the corner.

TampaJim, and all.....

Personally, I dont count the pegs touching down thats far to easy.

Yes , that muffler bracket was the first part to touch down when I test rode the bob, also well scraped on my bike now.
I hav'nt touched anything down on the primary side yet.
But when I had my old shovel sturgis I rode that thing so hard I ended up with a hole ground away into the primary cover......
Good job that it was a belt drive ,so the primary ran dry.(no oil to leak out )
That was 20 years ago maybe I dont ride as hard as I used to ?
Nah........ thinking about it , thats not the case im just a little more careful now I have a wife and two kids.

Now........ when you get the bars down ,you know that your in trouble.

Keep scraping those pegs guys n, gurls

Right, its the only way to go!

Also, mid mounted pegs are better than forwards in the twisties.

May find some that argue this, as they have been riding forwards for years and are comfortable with them; however how many motocross bikes, and crotch rockets have you seen with forwards?
