Default Fork Width

Looking to buy a used windshied (HD 14688-97).
It is off a 2005 Sportster.
This is for my 2005 FXD.

Is the fork width the same on a 2005 Sportster
and a 2005 FXD?

As far as I know both models up to '05 have 39mm forks whereas FXDWG has 41 mm forks.

In 2006 MoCo changed to 49 mm fork for all Dyna models.

I think he's looking for what the fork spacing is, not what the diameter of the fork tubes is. That being said, I don't know the answer to the question.

You are correct.
I am trying to determine the distance between the fork tubes.
Is the narrow fork the same width on these models.
Thanks, I should have been more clear.

You have 3 spacings, narrow glide, mid glide and wide glide. Sporties are narrow glide, and off the top of my head not sure if the 05 FXD was narrow or mid, but thinking it is a mid glide.

Here's what I found on a windshield ad:

14688-97 windshield:

* Measures 24″ wide by 28″ tall overall

* Measures 14 1/2″ above horizontal chrome

* Measures 22″ from light opening to top of windshield

* Distance between mounting brackets is 13″

Another ad shows some images + the owners phone number...you could give him a call and ask him some questions....

You'll need this docking hardware (58164-96A):

Mid glide started in '06 using 49mm forks.

Left to right:

Wide-glide is ~ 250mm wide using 41mm forks, Narrow-glide is ~ 175mm wide using 39mm forks, Mid-glide is ~ 216mm wide using 49mm forks, (all center to center)
