Finally finished my new rear fender
The side mounted plates are legal here as long they are mounted horizontal, also, but they must be lighted. I went with the symmetrical look and the hidden license plate lights above the frenched fender mounted plate. To do that I had to recess that eyebrow about an inch at it's deepest point in order for the 4 LED light to shine over the license plate frame and illuminate the plate. Hindsight tells me that I could have gone to at least a 6 LED light, but I'm legal and the plate illuminates just fine.
I looked all over for a rear fender that was 8.25" wide and maybe even had the frenced in license plate recess, but came up empty. I had to make my own.
I first bought a Paul Yaffe rear fender, it was the best at 12 Ga steel, but it was way too short to be legal and my planned frenched plate would be pointed straight up. The WCC Jesse James was a better fit, but it was less than half as thick at 18 Ga, but I made it work, it just took longer to do. I wouldn't do it again with 18 ga, especially if you need to narrow it.
I guess I owe you a big thanks!
