Default Not Cool

I don't get it.

This is not the first time that this has happened. Sitting at a stop light on my ' 06 SuperGlide when 3 riders pulled up, right next to me on their Harleys. I smile and wave, but they didn't even acknowlege that I was there, 2 guys on WideGlides and a Lady on her Sporty. Just a few days before that, Riding on I-5, some guy on his '06 'Bob pulls up along side me, in my lane, I wave, he keeps looking straight forward, cracks his throttle and then rolls on.... WTF!? Is my SuperGlide, not as "Harley" as his?

I didn't used to understand it but I may have figured this out. I wear a full face silver helmet because it matches my bike, not a flat black pancake. No "biker" patches or a big eagle on my nylon (not leather) Harley FXRG jacket, I won't wear chaps and don't own a vest. And why would you really wear a skull cap or doo rag or whatever? Could it be because I wear gloves that even cover my fingers?

No skulls all over me or my bike. My bike (scoot? Now is that cool...) has stock appearing pipes and I haven't bought extra chrome.... No HD decal for my truck. (What was I thinking?? Bought a Harley instead of a sticker!!)

I wave at other bikes, including metrics and yes, even Sportsters. (Everyone knows that Sportsters aren't Harley enough... ) Most Metrics wave but they aren't part of the "family". I keep both hands on my non-ape bars, not one on my hip while reving my engine waiting for the light to change. I even use my turn signals when switching lanes because I havn't figured out the biker way to just point the direction. Should I use one finger? Two? My fist? Humm.

It shouldn't be so difficult. I just want to ride. Someone tell me the code to kool...

Dude, calm down... Some people are just buttholes. The guide to being cool is to get out there and ride and have fun. Stop worrying about what other people think and that will be a lot easier.

Hi ,

Do you ride for your enjoyment?
So what if others dont acknowledge you ,
I used to be in a very big back patch club over here in the UK, and I was reprimanded by other club members for smiling and waving at others whilst on club runs. I especially made an effort to wave at children (dont get me wrong I'm no perv!) The way I look at it is that there are already to many people out there who dont like bikers, and if I wave at someone on a bike or not, what harm can it do?
It might make that kid think ,wow bikes are cool maybe I'll get one when I'm older, coz lets face it bikes may well be outlawed by goverments all around the world sooner than we think.
Bollocks to the misery guts who dont wave back,

Just my 2 pence worth

Nige

Sounds like your problem is a combination of a bunch of things. The rider your desricbing sounds just like the RICH guy sterotype. You didn't by any chance buy all the Harley gear in the store either did you? Like the off stuff made from nylon etc? I'm just curious if you further meet that profile.

I like cool people. They are so easy to pizz off. Maybe you should have fell in with them and rode for a while. They would have been checking their mirrors, thinking "WTF" ? Ruined their day. They would have gone wherever they were going, ordered their Heinekin, or whatever and griped about it to anyoine who would listen.

Hey I'll wave to ya

Other than that who cares! I wave sometimes other times I don't. I don't wave to everyone in a Chevy truck when I drive that.

I don't buy into that "Family" bullshit. To me all (Metric, european, and american iron) are part of a family of Motorcyclists. If you bought the bike just to be a part of the so-called "Family" and to be aknowleged by other harley riders then shame on you. If you got it to ride and enjoy it then do so. Sounds to me like you were enjoying your ride while the guys that were too cool to wave were more about making an impression. Don't worry about it.
