You don't think riding my WG for 3 years and 10000 with the ecm issue would affect the ecm? The bike seem to run fine until recently. I don't know what to think yet I haven't talked to HD about what they say caused the problem. This product notification hasn't been out that long and now bike is out of warranty. It is just hard to put out the $700 for ecm replacement knowing that there could have been a problem all along that should have been addressed.
A program in the ECM can not cause a failure of the ECM, it could cause a mechanical problem like running too lean and burning a piston or valve. A faulty ECM is usually due to a failed driver, a solder joint or a short circuit that damages the board, etc. It is somewhat important to know what caused the damage to the ECM, especially if it was a faulty component that took it out.

How do you find out when bike was built, just bought my 07 used 2 weeks ago, has 30k miles on it. Not sure if any of these issues have been delt with. Can dealer run vin to see what if anything reguarding the service updates have been done?
