On my '07 RKit occasionally gets a "cough" or "gulp" right as I'm starting off, usually after it's well warmed up, and slightly lugging in 1st gear. Of course I try to never lug the motor but all starts are not perfect. It's a quick gasp and then it picks right up and goes. You could even compare it to a backfire as far as the way it feels but it doesn't actually backfire.
Has anyone else had this same problem, did it get worse, what did you do about it?
It's so intermittant that I know taking it to the dealer will result in "well we couldn't get it to do it so we can't fix it"

 

I have a 07 ultra two months old, 4500 miles and have had it happen maybe 5 times . you are right if you bring it to a shop they would never find it happening that often

 

Well funny you should just post this topic because my 07 Ultra just had a hiccup last night as well. It was pretty much just like you described. I think it was because i'm still running lean even with the dealers flash download. I had been waiting on a SERT but who knows when they are gonna be back in stock.

I was told by the dealer that it's normal!

 

Mine did it when new- happened about once every 500 miles or so. Scary as hell- especially when there's some old fart behind you in a Buick yakking on a cell phone. All you can do is pray they'repaying attentionwhen your bikesputters after taking off from the light.

Told my dealer about it, they did the 903 download on it, and it hasn't happened since.That was about 2000 miles ago...

 

My 06 Classic does the same thing.
Almost dropped the thing leaving a parking lot (slow turn with a good lean)
Scared the crap out of me too.

 

Well,.... its "normal" because all the H-D FI bikes are just way too lean and they are starving for fuel.

wow, just had it happen to me day before yesterday. sounded like a carb fart that my sporty does when i've been goosing the throttle on the downshift then hit the gas to speed up. I can count on one hand how many times it's happened to my Ultra in 6000 miles.

Just had the PCIII installed so will see if it happens now!

 

Yeah I had a brand new 07 Road King while mine was off with the wobble, and this same cough happened to me most mornings as leaving home. I was like a backfire through the carby of evos I usedto ride, I think it running lean without the download. I also nearly feel off because I was leaning it for a slow corner when it coughed, I had to put my foot down to keep it up. Scared the ..it out of me. My 05 with a download has never coughed or done anything like this, I thought with injection they were perfect.

 

when my 07 was new it was perfect.

then i did the 903 recall and the cough started as well as hesitation when accelerating from a dead stop .

i assume your bike as all the newer 07 have the same program that the 903 recall did to my bike.and the cough.

the problem was solved as soon as i did the pc3.
