Okay so I am in another deployment. I read posts on here more than I actually log in. I am sure my post count shows too. Well I talked to the boss lady the other day on the phone and threw out there that I was going to get a tuner. I am looking at Fuel Moto as I have heard nothing but good from folks on here and have a bud that has used them with good things to say.

I plan on getting the Power Commander V and a new a/c. I have a couple questions.

Do I need dyno time and programmer to use this thing?

-- I don't know anything about the tuners other than they make the bike run better and cooler. Harley wanted appoximately $800 for the race tuner and dyno time. (Might have been $700 as I spoke to them about 2 months ago)

What is a good a/c and what should I stay away from?

--seems I have heard issues about Arlen Ness big sucker backing plates not being so great

I have the Rush slip on mufflers on right now. No other mods have been done. I would like to cool it off and run better.

Also, I am stationed in DE and wondering if any of you guys are from that area. Do you know any good shops around my area. I live about 20 minutes south of Dover..... Well take care and hope to hear back....

Mac

I've read about the same issues with the Arlen ness ac, but I have one and my Buddy has one on his nightster and we don't have any issues. I run the PCV in my bike. I bought mine from a forum member and I have read some of fuel motos tunes creating a lot a decel popping. That shouldn't discourage you from buying from them as my map was from power commander and I had decel pop. But power commander has great online support and l logged onto their online support and a tech came online, took over my computer and got rid of the decel popping. It was pretty cool watching him remotely do his thing on my computer in programming my bike. I don't think there is a need for a dyno tune. I got enough power and still get 50 mpg on the highway. City is mid 30s but I'm a little heavy on the throttle with the stop and go. Dyno maybe with cams or more extensive engine work IMO.

Stay safe, Jaron

Hey just wanted to say thanks for the input. I have read until I am blue in the face on tuners and so forth. I finally just decided to post the question. I know that everyone has their preferences so just thought I would throw it out. Thanks for getting back to me so fast. Take care....

I second Mike's as a really good place to get service done. They bent over backward to get me back on the road a few weeks back. I was really in a pinch as I live in Stone Harbor NJ and work in Wilmington. They stayed an hour late and the service manager did the work himself as he had already sent the other mechanics home by the time I got the bike towed in there 20 minutes to closing.

They take care of you and are helpful and concerned about keeping you on the road as best as possible.

If the OP is just looking to add fuel and not worried about adjustments after engine mods(big bore, cams) then why not look into a DFO. Most will have a basic set up guide and the owner can dial them in without a dyno or computer. I have one on my stock FXDLI, works pretty good getting the job done.

THX for your service ... I'll be joining you over there soon ....

From what I've heard, Jaimie at Fuel Moto has a good reputation with the PCV and provides a good base map and good customer service to get you set up ... I have no first hand experience, however ....

I started my round of mods with a DFO ... later 'upgraded' to a ThunderMax w/ AutoTune system ... a lot more costly alternative, but much more capable unit ....

The AutoTune feature is also on several of the other systems available and I recommend it ...

I think part of the calculus has to be your pricing points ... as and when you are at the point of modifications to your motor where you will need to spend money on a dyno tune, in my mind it makes sense to look at the AutoTune systems ...

The slightly higher price level of the AutoTune units can be offset by the cost of the labor hours in dyno tuning ... thus, it is a trade-off ...

If you spend the money on a dyno tune and then end up doing more mods later, you'll end up spending the same dollars again to dial it in a second time ... with an AutoTune, the base map can be updated and the AT will do the rest ....

Good luck with your decision ... you'll get a lot of good feedback from members on this forum ... you might also look around on one of the technical forums ....
