I need help.
Just went out a little while ago to install my Zippers air intake. Things were going well, got the old one off no probs. Then I noticed that the backing plate of the old air intake had a wire plugged into it. I can see where the wire runs up under the gas tank, but the "housing" for the plug seems to just be a dead end. I mean, the plug really doesn't plug into anything...just fits into a hollow female end.
Service manual shows an intake sensor there, but it looks like the assembly that it runs to is not on my backing plate. Of course, the photo says it's for HDI Models. I really don't know what that is.
Can I just zip tie this plug up out of the way and be done with it? I really can't see what it would be doing for me in the first place. Of course, I don't claim to be a mechanic. I just think I can follow directions well enough to put on an air intake. Or at least I did!

I just finished the 10 minute install. It idles just fine.
Thanks for the help guys. Now I just have to decide if I want to tackle the pipe install today. I have to admit, the bike looks a million times better after removing the factory air intake.

HDI stands for HD international. I dont know why they just didnt unplug it from the harness to begin with here in USA . I guess they are preparing for more emissions crap here too. Anyway as others have said it doesn't do a damn thing. zip tie it out of the way.
