Default Saddlebag Question

I have HD Leather Saddlebags (90369-06A) on my '05 Dyna WG. They are currently bolted on -- I really like the bags and would like to make them detachable. The dealer tells me they can't be converted but I am skeptical. Any suggestions?

I would imagine that you could use the HD detachable bag mounting kit just fine. Seems to me that you would need the kit plus the sideplates that allow for the QD hardware.

The bolts that currently hold your bags to your fender struts should be able to be replaced with the extensions that make up the QD part of the hardware. Those extensions then mount into the sideplate and are locked in place with the QD brackets.

Don't know why your dealer told you it wasn't possible.

Of course, I certainly could be wrong but I am thinking that there are a number of QD mounts for bags out there...not just HD ones.

Maybe your dealer was either not very informed, didn't want to fool around with it or otherwise.

Good luck.

If my memory serves me correct, you will need to change the side plates and you can use either the Ghost Brackets or I have the Barebacks which I am very happy with. I have read on this site that the Ghost Brackets can be a little noisy, no such problem with the Barebacks. You can get them in the J&P catalog.

QD fittings from http://www.easybrackets.com/index.htm are another option...

Get bolts about 1/2 inch longer than those provided. Put them in backwards and put a nut on and tighten. Place your bags over
this bolt with a large washer on each side of the bag. Secure with
another nut inside of the bag. When you wish to remove them, simply remove the nut and washers from inside the bags.
