I have to put some saddlebags on my bike so I can carry stuff. I would like them to be detachable so if I just want to take a short couple of hour ride, I can remove them for a cleaner look.
I have been doing research and found the detachable kits don't show up on the HD website and some links to posts made in years past, don't go through anymore.
The other day, the parts guy at the dealer said there was a kit for about $200.00 but didn't give me any other information.
Can I buy a set of saddlebags similar to the 90369-06D bags and make them detachable?
I cannot speak to the HD bags you're asking about but, if you are looking for a great set of bags that completely detach and leave no hardware (frame, etc.) on the bike, I highly recommend the FXDXT retro bags from LeatherPros. Here is a link: http://leatherpros.com/website1_003.htm
HD shows the left lower arm bracket kit and the right lower arm bracket kit but you would still need the top brackets for both sides. I don`t know how economical it would be to buy these separately, plus the bags.
I made my own quick-detach saddle bags. I will post pics when I can. I used aluminum angle to make the mounts and an aluminum plate on the back of the bags for support. I have a few more ideas to try for different mounting methods.

On my last bike I had a set of saddlebags that were fastened to ghost brackets. Worked well but rattled allot if the bags are empty. On my new bike I put on a set of rigid mounted saddlebags. I to looked for a way to mount and dismount easily the best thing I saw was a product called bag-eze. They were behind the counter at my local harley dealer and they were $79.00. I didn't get them because I'm still on the fence about what route I'm gonna take but an online search on YouTube had an installation video.
