Default Hand Grip Question

Is the stock harley grip SLEEVE-on the throttle side- able to accept any hand grip? The reason i ask is that i got the stock grip off-and had to cut and scrape the grip off of the sleeve-the new grip was tight on it but i figured i could just pound it on-that didnt work-it squeezed the sleeve so tight onto the bar that it wouldn't work the throttle right-i had to end up destroying the sleeve to get it off-i'm waiting on a new one now. I think I need to shave it down some or file it down some to have a little play between the sleeve and the grip right?

As long as its for the same diameter as your bars. IMO use Avon or HD grips, never had issues here...
I have tried the cheap Chinese crap on my last bike and they do NOT fit properly at all. jmo.

Most throttle grips come with the sleeve built in. Just like the stock one, which seems to be bonded on in some way. You might be able to make the grip work with a new sleeve, but if not I would get a good quality grip the includes the sleeve.

a lot of grips won't accept sleeves, they r made to accept the throttle cables directly and just slip on the bars

You didn't say what year or model your bike was. There's 2 different type grips, dual cable and throttle by wire. Even 1 1/4" bars are tapered to fit the grips. Usually the sleeve is part of the grip.

Use a wire wheel to remove ALL of the old grip material from the sleeve before installing the new one and it will slip right on and stay.
