Default Switchback Stage One?

Had my Switchback FLD stage one download, high-flow air filter, and Screamin' Eagle slip-on muffler put on at about 2500 miles. Overall, I'm pretty happy. Anyone else done the same? It has evened out the ride some--my mirrors at 75-80 mph are a lot clearer. I am, however, getting a lot more de-cel popping. Wonder how much decel pop is acceptable? Thoughts?

I put Cobra Slashdown Pipes on and was getting decel popping and seemed a little sluggish on the throttle (sounded great though).

Tried Quiet Cores which gave the back pressure and smoothed out the throttle, but were too quiet at highway speeds after all. Still some popping.

Put the Cobra baffles back in but this time installed a GPOP back pressure mini baffle ( http://www.gmanindustries.com/shop/p...&idcategory=75 )
for the back pressure.
You could probably make one yourself.
I installled it with the Cobra baffle (pretty difficult from the inside) to install them together.

Got my throttle response back but still popping on decel and back fire occasional.

Installed Cobra FI2000r, and made small adjustments until back fire/popping was gone.

Installed K&N Filter in stock air cleaner, and opened up the flow by drilling numerous unseen holes along the bottom and sides.
I know this leaned it out and is providing more flow because it started popping/back firing again.

Adjusted the FI200R a half turn on the pod and popping is all gone - running great now with Stage 1 Type Air Flow and Exhaust Flow.

Also engine is very much cooler with taking out the leanness and better flow.

Still a great bike!

Wow, it sounds like you've really worked at this. I'm not much of a mechanic but I'll look into the "Adjusted the FI200R" idea, Thanks for the input-- And, yes, I love the bike!

I have a FLD with V&H Slip On and Big Sucker Air Kit & SE Tuner.
My FLD needs tuning again. When the bike warms up the
popping is really too much. The dealer said they would check it out.
Meanwhile I decided to go with a full exhaust system. So there going
to install the Fat Cats and retune it for the price of the install only.

Well see Friday the outcome.

Here are pics of my "Improvised Stage 1".

Open Air Box
High Flow Exhaust
Air/ Fuel Mixture Adjustment

Open Exhaust with Cobra Slashdowns and GPop Mini Baffle. High Flow and Back Pressure needed for torque.

I used a drimmle to cut off enough of the GPop to fit it into the pipes and screw it outward through the Cobra Baffle and placed the nut on the outside of the pipe. Just takes a little patience and time. The directions say do this with "no baffle" (which is very easy) but I wanted to leave the Cobra flow through Baffle in for sound and torque back pressure. Very good "Shot Gun" pipe sound, and saved the torque too!

Here is the Air Box Mod to open up the Air Flow.

I put holes in the side of the stock air entry hole and in front of the box. I'm not convinced there is really any "ram air" effect with this box, so these holes allows more air to be pulled in. My previous post describes fuel adjustment needed which proves the air flow is much greater now.

If you like the Stock Air Box Look, it still looks the same, but much more air flow.

Finally the Fuel Adjustment. Closed Loop Cobra FI2000. It connects to Injectors and 02 Sensors. The Default Pod Settings are for a Stock Bike with SlipOn Muffler, 1-3-1. As stated in my previous post, my settings that are working well are 2 1/2 - 4 1/2 - 2.
Supposedly the 02 sensor feature won't allow any changes in the first pod because it will just overide it based on air mixture - but I turned it up anyway.

Hope this helps and gives some ideas for similar modification.
Ride On!

Like the pipes bill. I just bought a V and H slip on but I want the staggered pipes. Trying to be patient.

Any decel pop on a new bike is not acceptable to me. If you have the right tuner and it is set up properly then your bike will run it's best and you won't have the pop.

Do some research so you do it right the first time, otherwise you will spend more then you have to to get it right
