I just swapped tanks on my 2012 wide glide. Everything seemed to go smooth but now the bike won't stay running. When I turn the switch on the pump starts and then stops but it sounds like fuel is running in the tank while it is running. If I turn the switch off and back on the pump runs again so it isn't building any pressure. Did I lose an o ring or something?
Hard to say without know how you installed the pump. If not done properly it can be easy to crack a hose inside the tank. Maybe you did not snap the fittings together all the way. Did you replace the filter while you had it out and not get it in right?
You should only hear the pump for a couple seconds when you hit the switch, it should not stay running until you start it.
I did take it apart at the filter but I am fairly confident I got that part back together right. The spot I am suspicious of is where the hose from the quick disconnect connects to the fuel pump. It doesn't seem like a pressure tight fit there. I was thinking I didn't have it all the way seated or I lost an O ring seal or something. I will have to check the hose also like you mentioned.
Also, the pump only runs about 5 seconds and turns off. But if I turn the switch off and back on it runs again. On my Electra glide when I do that it does not restart and I don't hear any running fluid sounds. I just hear the sound of the pump running.

After the pump primes, if you turn the switch off then back on it shouldn't prime again because the line should already be pressurized. Sounds like your loosing pressure somewhere. I would check all lines for a fuel leaks. If you don't see anything then I would think it is a connection to the pump itself inside the tank.
Is there an O ring or any type of seal that is supposed to be on the plastic part connecting the pump to the hose going to the quick disconnect? I have a repair manual but it really does not show that part very well. If there is supposed to be something on that piece then I have lost it.
What most think is the pump running, is actually the air idle valve setting its self.... take a look at your "in tank" plumming. Mybe something is loose...

Hope this helps..

Actually if you disconnect the fuel line from the throttle body and turn the key on, it will pump fuel for about 2 seconds, so yes it is the fuel pump running. Helps when you need to drain that last little bit out of the tank.
