Default BDL Open Primary

considering getting one of these, wanted to see if anyone else had one so I could see a picture of it on a bike and see what your experience of it has been. thanks.

Not sure BDL makes one for a dyna. Evil Engineering and Performance Machine do but they're both around $3k. Not worth it IMO.

I stand corrected. They do make one. Not many people are willing to drop that kind of cash on something that doesn't make much of an improvement and decreases the ride ability of the bike.

I would give BDL a call ... I've spoken with Dan in their tech side several times ... helped me straighten out an issue I had ...

The Dyna and Softail models have a lot of similarities and share parts on the primaries (Twin Cam and I think even previous Evo and maybe even Shovelhead) ... so, the BDL setup that is made for the Softails works for the Dyna ... at least there is a lot of fitment overlap ...

The issue I faced is that the installation referenced spacers ... and there are no spacers on the Dyna lineup ... the parts manual does not show them and there are none installed on the bikes ...

When I installed mine, it was off just enough to prematurely wear out one belt and a clutch hub ... on separate occasions ... and the Harley techs who worked on them (two of them) never diagnosed the issue or corrected it ... finally, after some consultation with BDL, it came to light that it was the alignment that was causing me problems ... I got a set of the spacers and got the thing properly aligned ... almost 5,000 trouble-free miles later and I couldn't be happier ...

Good luck, the spacers I used were from this parts set ...

I would just make sure that if the BDL setup does not include the spacers, that you get some and ensure the alignment is DEAD ON ...

surfor, you have any pics? also, are the pulley cover and side guard just for looks and safety or do they have a role in the function of the primary?

Sorry to lead you on ... I am not sporting an OPEN belt drive ... my belt drive is an enclosed primary ...

However, I just wanted to draw your attention to a potential issue and ensure you were on top of it ...

* * *

As I am aware, the covers and side guard are just for safety and for looks / decorative ... not sure how much safety they provide ...
