I don't see nearly as many complaints about engine heat on the Dyna forum as I do over on the touring bike forum. Is the seating position and engine, pipes etc. placement different enough on the Dynas that the engine heat doesn't affect the rider as much?
I have a '94 Dyna and have never felt any noticeable engine heat at all. Is that kinda true on the new ones too?
If I end up buying one, it will be left factory-stock, so that would be the configuration I'm asking about.
Many thanks in advance for any and all info and opinions.
I have heat problem with my '10 it comes from windshield and lowers, screaming eagle air cleaner helps. Sucks the heat back in the motor. In town like Sturgis ralley is real bad.
I just want to thank everybody for their responses so far.
This is exactly the kind of info I was needing. If these bikes aren't really comfortable to ride heat-wise right out of the box, then I'll pass. No way I'm spending a penny more for aftermarket parts to be able to ride it. IMO, that's total BS.
I'll keep my '94 and be happy with that instead. 60+ MPG and runs cool and stone reliable.
Just so there's no confusion, I was asking about engine heat issues on STOCK bikes - as in non-modified - like they come form the factory. My preference if I get one at all is the Super Glide Custom (which I forgot to mention in my original post - oops!).
If anybody has one that's been left factory-stock, I'd really be interested in hearing your opinions. But again, everybody's opinions and impressions are more than welcome and very much appreciated!

I have a 2012 FXDC and it was stock for 3 or 4 months and I had no heat issues what so ever.
I've never ridden a tourer but my Heritage was REAL hot. You're sittin right on the oil tank on a Softail. I ended up buying an RJ heat shield which helped a little. 96ci (and I assume bigger) are hot engines, no doubt about it.
