Well today is the day. My dealer has free beer and wings on Wednesday also. So I am bringing the bike in and while they are installing my stuff, I will have a beer, wings, and watch the bikini girls do their thing.

FWIW, dealer installed HD parts during the first 60 days of ownership receive the full 2 year warranty.

New pipes/stage one kit don't void the warranty. But you need to remap/flash your bike to your upgrades, and this is what your paying for.

You don't need to remap **** if you're just getting a breather and slip ons, that's a rip off and HD knows it!

Well I did. It. But it sounds like crap.

Backfires and pops when slowing down and shifting gears.

Sounds like shotguns going off.

Also sound Like it's gulping. Best I can describe it.

Am I to picky if I found they dented my front header heat shield and replaced one of chrome screws with a stainless Allen screw on my breather cover?

Kinda bummed.

Sounds like an improper tune. Did they download the stage 1 map to it? TAKE IT BACK!
And in no way are you being too picky...that's shabby work. Did the tech have a few pints and wings too?

Take it back and have them make it right, I would definitly want all the screws to match, thats what you paid for so thats what you should have.

They can't make it right...or least it is illegal for them to. HD dealers legally cannot map a bike to run richer than 14.6:1 per EPA regs.

This will result in surging, hesitation and running hot. It will not damage them, but it is less than a satisfactory riding experience.

Easy, inexpensive, fast fix is the XiED. You can read all the details about it HERE.

The Plug-n-Play XiED richens the Air Fuel Ratio from 14.6:1 to 13.8:1 in closed loop mode.

Well guys they sent a person to pick the bike up yesterday. They apologized for the dents and the oddball bolts their tech put in.

They agreed they could not make the backfiring stop with out a tuner and Dino.

I told them I did not have the money.

I won't tell the whole deal but, they ordered me a new set of Harley pipes and Took the others back for full credit and they are making things right. Only bummer is won't get my bike back for a week

But I am very happy. No arguing no excuses they just took care things.

A good ending. They putting some SE slip-ons on now?

This is a good lesson for anyone going this route. Short shots are just not good pipes, performance-wise. They are a lousy design for anything other than looks and they perform worse than the stock pipes on the dyno at all but red-line revs.

Also, the dealer stage-1 map is a complete and utter waste of money and no one should ever consider it. All it does is raise the rev limiter a little - that's it, nothing else. The bike can cope with stage-1 pipes and air cleaner just as well for free.

So, a bad combo of parts.

I'd recommend taking the advice given earlier and fit yourself some Xieds once its done. You can always whip them off if you are bothered about them during any warranty work. The bike will run much better with them for as long as you run without a tuner.
