So what do you think. After researching I am thinking of trying to rub it out with dry ice have seen both positive and negative comments on this method. Whenever I put the emblem over it its almost unnoticeable but I KNOW its there and welcome any suggestions.
Is there a way to get inside the tank possibly through a fuel gauge? If so then you could use something to push it out similar to paintless dent repair for hail damage.
Heating it real good with a blow dryer (or heat gun) and using dry ice (or freon) will get most of the dent out, if you do it correctly, you will still have marks where the dimples are.
I know your pain. I was changing my handle bars a week or two ago & I guess from moving the front wheel back & forth I jarred my kickstand lose. Down she went.
If you've ever seen the "super adrenaline power lifters" ....that was me. I lifted it w/out any handle bars on it.
My dent isn't creased like that nor did it scratch any paint. Not too bummed about it....but I am going to try the heat / cold method over winter.
you can also use a keyboad duster if you flip it upside down and then spray it, freeon comes out... i have done this many times on doors... if all else fails and you would like it repaired we can always repair the dent and then coat the tank... here is one we did for a customer recently https://www.hdforums.com/forum/powde...d-coating.html
OP.....cover it an move on, otherwise you are gonna spend a bunch of cash.
JRK5892.......With a dent that big, I would be concerned the tank liner would be cracked and cause more issues down the road. Do you recoat the interior of the tank after a repair like that?
HD does not line the tanks... a few FXD's in the 90's where but other than that 99% of the tanks we see do not have any liners in them... if so we have to bring it to a radiator shop to have that removed... but there was no liner in this tank at all... to be honest only time i ever see people line tanks is when they are not confident with their welds... so that is not a worry here
Can one of you give me a step by step with the heat gun/freon method? I got a small dent on the top edge of the tank that is hardly noticeable, no crease or crack. Which I believe would pop right out.
