The bike (1998 EVO- 10K miles- 2nd owner who put on 9,500M over past 2 years) will be layed up over the next 45-60 days due to $hitty weather and so I'd like to take advantage of the time and shop for the biggest bag for my buck. If you had $1K-1.5K and a stock EVO engine (excluding ripsaw pipes and big sucker A/C now on the bike) what would you do for a little performace upgrade? I was think of a bigger cyl. kit and a Muk. 42 carb. and....
Bike runs great as is but could use a little more throttle. Very reliable and want to keep it that way.

Sounds like you have a nice stable setup that's proven itself over time and runs good. If it was me - and I was planning a 6K trip as soon as the weather got nice - I'd leave it alone until the trip was over.
Why risk tweaking something too much that might break during the trip?
