just replaced my front engine mount on my 05 fxdwg and still feel alot of vibration down to my foot pegs... my rear mount looked good and the top engine stabilizers seemed to be tight.. dont have a clue.. thanks
Well, I ride a Softail, but rode a friend's Super Glide, and his brother's Low Rider and I couldn't believe the amount of vibration. The feet in particular. So I'm not sure how you could tell the difference. Is the top mount ok?
And welcome to the Forum from Colorado!
Did you find how to shim the front mount and also run to motor while the mounts are loose to let it settle in the right spot? It made a huge difference for me. If you didn't, do a search.
three things are usually recommended for Dyna vibration issues, assuming the rubber isolators aren't worn or damaged.
1. shimming the front mount, as noted above
2. shaving down some of the rubber on the top of the front isolator. I think there's a service bulletin around that does this.
3. loosen all the isolator bolts front and rear, hold the bike upright and idle the motor for 10 seconds, keep holding the bike up and torque all mount/isolator bolts. This is referred to in the shop manual as the vibration adjustment procedure.
My Low Rider shakes pretty good at idle but is nice and smooth while riding... well, not too smooth.
Was there any preload when you took the mount loose? if so it needs shimmed. Get the weight off the mount. Back out the bolts and measure the gap between the frame and the mount. Add shims. Menards sells chrome ones. I just painted three stainless washers. Retorqued and most of vibs went away. Welcome to the post. Tons of knowledge out here. Alot of sharp wrenches on this site.
I happen to have spoken with an HD tech specialist while at an HD dealership and he said the first thing to do is to always make sure the carbs are clean. Many times cleaning them and proper adjustment reduces alot of vibration.
