Default Dyna or Duece

I posted this on the softail section also in case eaders don't read both forums. Hope that is OK.

I'm 56 and been riding since 17. Never owned a Harley but looking to cross over to the Dark Side. I'm torn between the 2007 Dyna Low Rider and the 2007 Softail Duece. To many choices is sometimes a bad thing. Any opinions, especially from people who have riden both?

I was in the same boat before my first HD purchase. Had ridden metrics my whole life until buying my 07 bob in December. I just went off looks (fancy that....just being plain superficial).

What did ya ride before ?
Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki. Cruisers, sport bikes, etc. Just never owned a Harley. My long trip days are over. Probably 200 miles in a day would be my max with most of my riding between 75 and 100 a day.

I love the looks of the Deuce but the low rider feels better sitting on it in the show room. Deuce counter balanced and Dyna rubber mounted. What to do, what to do? tough decision for me.

Tough call.....I'm 53 and I chose the Lowrider because of the softer suspension and better re-sale (or so I am told) of the Dyna. Plus I wanted the TC88A vs the TC88B engine.

I've owned both bikes. I like the way my Deuce handled but I like the look of my Dyna. The Deuce handled the turns alot better than the Dyna. The Dyna has a softer ride than the Deuce. At least what I have found.

I think you partially answered your own question when you said "The low rider feels better when I set on it." It may well feel better if you ride it also. Give 'em a try.

Typically the twin shock bikes handle better, by design, but get what you like to ride.

I too, can't get past the rear fender on the deuce.

As for your choice of 88 or 88B, the softail is smoother on start-up and idle, but the dyna is smooth when cruising. I believe its at highway speed where the "balanced" motor starts to vibrate.

I personally like the way my Bob shakes at Idle. I also like the way it goes into stealth mode at about 60 to 75 mph.vroommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I would think the fatter forks on the Dyna would be sturdier than the old narrow Deuce ones, but I don't really know.

If you want to add some wild pipes, the softail wins out in availability

I'm pretty sure I remember reading about some Duece guys complaining about the lack of accessories for their model, whereas the softail standards etc. had a huge range (fancy that !).
