Well I called around today to get as much info on my new purchase and it seems it still has the original tires on it. Tread looks good, no cracking or gashes, but would like to get new rubber on it for safety purposes since it is going on a 9yr old bike and only 2500 miles on it.
My question is what is the tire size for the 04 Low Rider and what brand is a very reliable tire?
Frazier Harley has a special on tires: Fronts: $119.95 Reg: 149.95
and Rear : $164.95 Reg: $203.95
If I buy the tires from them labor is $135 to mount and balance
If I bring in my tires for them to mount and balance cost is $78 per wheel
What is a good brand of tire and a great place to buy and what is the sizes that I need?
Metzeler ME880's are nice, Michelin Commander II's are great, I dislike Dunlops's, just my personal opinion. Are you running spoke wheels? $78 per wheel sounds kind of high if you bring the wheels. My local dealer (probably the priciest in the area used to charge $60 per wheel with the tube included per wheel when I brought the wheels in.
I just put Avon Storm 2 on rear and Cobra on front. I realy like them. I think the front was $110 and rear was $170. Indy's around here charge $25 to $40 if you take the wheels to them. That is mount, balance and a tire strip.
I forgot to say that we charge $18.75 to mount tires if you bring your wheels to us. If you have spokes it's a little more for the tubes but that dealer is not inexpensive.
I still prefer Dunlop, If you go onto the Dunlop Web page for Harley Tires they will give you the size for the model and year of your bike. any tire more than 3 years old should be changed irrespective of wear.
I pay $25 at a local indy and they seem to take great carein mounting and balancing. I’ve got oneof the ‘Red’ Sears jacks and I’m perfectly happy with it for dismounting and randomrepairs.
Second the Motorcycle Superstore – I think I’ve made everyreplacement tire purchase from them so far. They ship incredibly quick too. Iwent with Commander II’s this time around. The Metzlers are great, but they do wear pretty quick. I’ve been prettyhappy with the Commanders so far, but I’m not a tire expert.
all tires have a manufacture date on them, check to see when yours were made. With only 2500 miles more than likely they are probably original. chaparral motorsports is also good place to check prices. when you buy check the dates on the new ones too
