alternative sissy bars?
I am looking for an alternative old skool sissy bar for my Street Bob that is an easy installation. I have had 3 previous Harley's with the detachable sideplates and sissy bar which work great for throwing a SAC over, but just looking for something different this time. Thanks, from Southern Oregon.
It's hard to beat home-made sissy bars for old school looks. My advice is start with the side plates from harley and get the right size square bar. Then be creative! (or pay someone to be creative.) I like the twisted look personally. Then you can paint, powder coat, chrome or plate it to suit your bike. Hope that gives you an idea.

I passed on the HD parts phor a sissy bar set up. I went with a detachable backrest bracket that attaches to the phender using the seat screws. Then I was able to get a round bar phor mine.
Mud made a really cool sissybar there is a few pictures in the "different LookingDyna with a Twist" Post.

The one I made for Bluegrass looks like this one here ^ ^ except he wanted the side bars out a little further and the bitchpad lower, which is easy to do when you build it yourself.

I just checked that CycleVisions site and they want alot for a chunk of bent round rod:

I like my sissy bar a lot,
and it is very nice to hear that others like it as well.
A couple pix ofmy sissybar follow(from a few days ago).
And, a picture from the jobsite in Austin on Monday.
Carved Texas limestone gargoyle.
Not my work, I am executing some other ornamental
embellishments for this project - a Texas billionaires compound/castle
overlooking Lake Austin.
I myownself do not remember ever seeing a sissybar that springs out of the fender.
No external mounting. My internal mounting is very strong,
I'm extremely satisfied with the result.
To elaborate on my adventure, 2006 SuperGlide.
All of the shiny black stock parts and pieces are unmolested

Half day, the machine can be back to showroom configuration.
I haven't cut, welded, drilled,or anything else on the basic platform.
It is all bolt on/bolt off.
Lowered two and a half in the rear w/o sacrificing shock travel.
The front forks are extended by two and a half inches.
Rolled the front fender back about three inches,
the rear fender is fabricated from three different fenders.
Starting with an 00 softail fender,
culminating with an 07 SoftTail fender.
Don't even know what year model the other fender was.
Picked up a wrecked tank on eBay for 50 bux,
beat the sides in, welded on some quarter inch round stock,
and reshaped the console, etc etc.
Oh yeah. and the tank is liftedtwo and a quarter inches by
sawing off the mounting tabs and rewelding in new location.
Built the taillite/turnsignal housing slash license plate/inspection sticker bracket.
Turn signals lite up amber when activated.
The Tail/stop is 60 lamp LED. Very bright.
Been running these parts and pieces for 3-4 weeks now for
a final fitment test before paint.
Project actually started about 5-6 months ago.
Right now I really do need a stock seat to modify
for a custom leather covering.
If you have an 06-07 takeoff let me know, I'm interested.
Pix below have a ducttape mockup saddle. It's actually very comfortable.
